CULTIVATING A SENSE OF GRATITUDE IN OUR CHILDREN

No matter how blessed our children maybe in terms of recieving the daily priviledges in life ,We as parents have an onus on us to make them understand the power of gratitude.
As a mother of two children specially a teenage boy who are generally in denial of anything and everything their mother has to say. This is one thing I can boast of having inculcated in my children.

  • Thanking everyone for the gifts recieved was a general practice.Be it from Grandparents or elders and a hug for the same was appreciated.
  • At a very early age I taught them to be thank every salesman at a store for spending time showing the stuff which meant even if the purchase didn't materialise we would still thank them.
  • They were taught to be humble to specially people who were not so privileged such as people dropping them home.
  • A sense of gratitude was encouraged whenever they would see people beg so as to thank God for their life and a habit of giving was encouraged.
  • The habit of giving away clothes and toys not needed to the underprivileged made them more grateful.
  • The children were taught to be empathetic and be thankful to anyone who would help them while playing even if it was just passing the ball for them.
